Comparing cuts, mixes, effects, graphics or any element of an edit or scene has always been a difficult task, made more so when toggling back and forth between players or screens. That’s why we’re happy to tell you about a handy feature we added to our Projects tool that makes doing this much easier.

With this update you’ll be able to upload and manage different versions of a file within the same file stack, giving you and your collaborators more control during post production. Then, when you select the compare feature and indicate which versions you want to compare, they’ll open in dual players where you can scroll through the two timelines, and play or mute the volumes.

From the Manage Versions menu you’ll be able to add a new version to a file, which will create a stack. You can also remove a version from the stack, and sort versions. You can even merge existing files within a project to create a new stack.

All versions within the stack – or even the entire Project folder itself – can be sent to clients or colleagues for easy review and comment.

And speaking of versions, you can now upload an unlimited number of variations of a video, still image or graphics and compare them against one another within the same stack.

Adding file versioning and comparison is part of our ongoing effort to keep making the Projects functions in Simian better and better. We think this simple enhancement will add a tremendous amount of ease and functionality to how our users and their clients review video or images.
